Accused subway stabber to appear in court

LONGWOOD -

Police say the man accused of stabbing a pregnant woman and her friend on the 2 train in the Bronx will appear in court Friday.

They say the incident happened Thursday around 7 p.m. at the Prospect Avenue station in Longwood.

According to officials, one of the women allegedly bumped into the suspect while sharing a seat with her friend on the Northbound 2 train. They say the suspect then pulled out a knife and stabbed the 24-year-old pregnant woman in the neck and her 21-year-old friend in the arm.

Police later arrested the suspect identified as Derrick Wilson, 50, of the Bronx. They say Wilson has been arrested dozens of times before this incident.

"More security would be nice on the subway especially now with all these terror attacks all over the place," says Tommy Cespedes, of Longwood. "As far as I'm concerned, the subways never completely safe, so you just got to keep yourself aware and you've got to get where you're going."

The 24-year-old woman remains hospitalized recovering while her 21-year-old friend has been released.

Police say Wilson is facing attempted murder, assault, menacing and weapons charges.

They say he will be arraigned in court later today.
