THE BRONX -

Crowds gathered Friday for a candlelight vigil and march for 5-year-old Jaheem Hunter, who police say was shot in the head by a stray bullet on Monday.

The march called for an end to gun violence, as participants chanted “guns down, life up” throughout the streets of Claremont. Neighbors, clergymen and activists joined the march down Washington Avenue and joined the family in prayer.

Hunter was with his father on his fifth birthday when the bullet hit him, placing him on a breathing machine in a hospital. His mother says his external bandages came off Friday.

Police have arrested the suspected shooter, Michael Quiles, and charged him with attempted murder.
