The man who police shot to death after they say he assassinated an on-duty NYPD officer had a criminal record upstate but lived in Morrisania with his girlfriend, sources say.

As News 12 has reported, Alexander Bonds, 34, fatally shot Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, as she sat in a mobile command unit with her partner early Wednesday morning. The bullet struck her in the head through a window at point blank range.

Police took Bonds' girlfriend in for questioning Wednesday morning and placed officers on guard outside the couple's apartment.

Some neighbors told News 12 they believed Bonds was involved in gang activity.
