CLAREMONT -

Police have arrested two men in connection with a violent clash in Claremont that left a 4-year-old girl and at least two other people with gunshot wounds Wednesday.

James Thomas and Frederick Fielder were both arrested and charged in connection with the shooting, but one suspect remains at large, police say.

More than a dozen shots rang out around 11:30 a.m. near the check-cashing store at 397 E. 167th St., according to authorities.

A bullet grazed the girl's back, police say.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce says both Thomas and Fielder also suffered gunshot wounds, but are expected to be OK.

Investigators say they recovered at least 17 bullets from the scene, some from a 9 mm handgun and some from a .45.

Surveillance video showed two groups, each containing at least three men, who police say agreed to meet at the corner, where a fight ensued.

During the altercation, one man pulled out a gun and opened fire. Then, a second man opened fire, according to investigators.

Boyce says there was only a minimal number of bystanders in the area, and none of the victims are likely to die from their injuries.
