The owner of a Brooklyn catering company recently disappeared, leaving many couples out of money and scrambling to re-plan their weddings.
Lynsey Woodruff and Elwood Hill chose the Prospect Park Boathouses as their wedding venue not knowing that Jackson Berson, owner of The Movable Feast, the boathouse's exclusive caterer, would pick up and vanish months before their big day.
"We're both very shocked and nervous and mad," they said.
The two are now out about $13,000 but say they are grateful that they put their deposits on credit cards, giving them hope that they'll get their money back.
"(We are) currently attempting to clarify the status of Movable Feast," a Prospect Park Alliance spokesperson said in a statement. "In the meantime, we are working with existing clients of Movable Feast to connect them with caterers that can accommodate their event."
According to Gothamist, the lawyer representing Berson's wife of 15 years, who recently filed for divorce, says there is speculation that Berson is in Atlantic City or gambling.
The couple says they are still waiting to hear back from the Prospect Park Alliance on what exactly their options are moving forward.
