Safety lighting project underway at Pelham Pkwy. Houses

Officials broke ground Thursday on a project to enhance lighting at NYCHA's Pelham Parkway Houses after several violent crimes, including two homicides, took place there.
As it stands, security cameras at the dimly lit complex rarely record useful images, according to authorities.
Sen. Jeff Klein says 93 new LED lights will brighten up the area in a $2.1 million project. He secured the funding in 2014, two years after two slayings occurred just two months apart at the complex.
Work should end in December, Klein says.
