Law enforcement officials have released the name of an NYPD officer who shot and killed an emotionally disturbed man they say lunged at officers with a knife.
Officer Miguel Gonzalez of the 67th Precinct was one of four officers who responded to the home of Dwayne Jeune before fatally shooting him.
According to police, Jeune's mother called 911 and reported her son was acting erratically inside of their New York Avenue apartment around 12 p.m. Monday
Police say Jeune's mother first told the 911 operator that her son was emotionally disturbed but non-violent.
However, police say when they arrived at the home, Jeune lunged at officers with a large carving knife.
One officer used a stun gun to disarm him but it did not work, according to police.
Gonzalez shot Jeune in the chest with his service pistol, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors say they have never seen Jeune act violently and that he could normally be found walking around listening to music and talking himself.
Gonzalez also shot and wounded another mentally ill man, Davonte Pressley, on Oct. 26, 2016 outside of a laundromat in East Flatbush, police confirmed.
The NYPD says it is investigating the incident.
