City officials were out Friday riding the rails for a second straight day in an effort to hear input and complaints from commuters.
Officials, including Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx), were riding from Queens through Brooklyn to Staten Island as part of the city's outreach after months of derailments and delays.
Some commuters say they sometimes give up and walk to avoid the slow service.
The city and state say they are planning to modernize the aging subway system to fix these problems.
"A key part of the solution, I believe, is having recurring sources of revenue to do the jobs that need to be done," says Dinowitz. "Particularly investing in infrastructure such as new signals, tracks, new cars…"
A City Council hearing on the subway system is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 8.
