Driver survives after car slams into building

Posted: Updated:
BROOKLYN -

Police say a man walked away with only minor injuries after his car slammed into a building Saturday in Canarsie.

They say the incident happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Avenue L near the Rockaway Parkway. The car rammed through an electricity pole, splitting it in half and damaging a home before overturning.

Authorities say the driver was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he is expected to survive.

"He came out walking, he didn't say anything but it was a miracle that he came out walking on his own two feet," says Kwesi Manwaring, who lives across the street from accident.

Sources tell News 12 the driver was high on cocaine and wanted to commit suicide.

Officials have yet to release the name of the driver and are still investigating.
