Suspect arrested after fatal stabbing over parking spot
Police say a 41-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested after stabbing two brothers, one fatally, during an altercation over a parking space.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. in front of 1261 East 73rd St. in Bergen Beach.
Police say 23-year-old Omari Dahan arrived home and was attempting to pull into his family's driveway when he got into an altercation over a parking space. Earlier, witnesses said it was Dahan's older brother who drove home and found the driveway blocked by another vehicle.
"He was beeping the horn for like 10 minutes," one witness said. "As soon as the owner of the car came out to move the car, the kid got out of his car and got in the gentleman's face."
The situation escalated, and Dahan went inside to enlist the help of his 28-year-old brother. Witnesses say one of the brothers smashed a baby gate over the suspect's head. Investigators say the suspect then stabbed the brothers.
Dahan was pronounced dead a short time later. His brother was stabbed in the arm and is expected to be OK.
Police say Djems Jean-Paul, 41, was taken into custody at an area airport after booking a JetBlue flight to Haiti. They say he was later identified in a lineup and charged with manslaughter.
Funeral services for Dahan were held Monday in Borough Park.
Dahan's father and another brother were killed in an incident in Queens about eight years ago.
