Basketball tourney pushes players to hit the books before the court

Just before the new school year starts, a local basketball tournament is pairing education with athletics.

The "Future Talent Basketball League" tournament gives inner-city kids a safe environment to play in for those who excel in the classroom as well.

The tournament requires participants to write an essay to join in on the fun.

This year's essay topic was on diabetics.

Nearly 100 kids turned out for the 7th installment of the tournament.
