Immigration activists in New York City rallied at the Brooklyn Federal Courthouse Thursday, filing a lawsuit in response to the president's decision to wind down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.
The move amends an earlier lawsuit that sought to block an order halting DACA's expansion. Now it argues that the president's move to cancel it entirely violates the Constitution's equal protection guarantee.
DACA protects from deportation about 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.
In Washington, President Donald Trump, a Republican, and top Democratic leaders appear to be close to a legislative immigration deal.
