Community calls for lighting at 9/11 memorial after flags stolen

Community members are calling for better lighting after American flags were stolen from a Sept. 11 memorial in Riverdale.
Residents built the memorial at the Endor Community Garden in the months following the attacks, in which six people from the neighborhood were killed.
Officials say at least seven flags have been stolen since June of this year. Each time, the flags are replaced and then once again removed by someone. News 12 investigated the thefts in July, and two more flags were stolen since then.
City Councilman Andrew Cohen and other local leaders are urging the Department of Transportation to add lighting to the memorial.
Residents say they hope to have a permanent memorial erected by Sept. 11, 2018.
