Kings County Hospital did "The Twist" Thursday to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.

The nonprofit Mascots for a Cure joined with the hospital to dance "The Twist" for 36 seconds, representing the number of children diagnosed with cancer every day in the United States.

"It is a fantastic idea to bring it to everybody's awareness and truly enjoy the health of healthy children and appreciate what being healthy means," said Dr. Swati Mehta.

Parents say they understand how devastating a diagnosis can be.

"You want to get the right diagnosis early before it is too late because these are our kids," said parent Yanika Bandoo. "We love them and we want the best for them."

Thursday marked National Twist Day, and September marks Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. As the month continues, kids, families and doctors are encouraged to do "The Twist" and share it on social media, spreading awareness and a message of hope.
