Thirty two FDNY firefighters are headed to Puerto Rico to help in the relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
Lt. George "Ricco" Diaz says he has seen his fair share of catastrophes, especially after heading to Houston in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
"I know I am going to see mass destruction…For the most part, I think I am ready for it," he told News 12
This will be the first mission of its kind for firefighter Chris Godoy - who is partly of Puerto Rican decent.
"It's just what I do," says Godoy. "I am a firefighter and, by nature, that's what we do. We save lives. It's the calling."
Of the 32 firefighters deploying to Puerto Rico, four are from Ladder 50 in Throgs Neck.
