Two staff members and a student at Manhattan College all have something in common—they're all cross country champions and two of them even went to the same high school but are decades apart in age.
Manhattan College hall of famer John Lovett was a part of the 1973 team who won the Manhattan College's first NCAA national championship. He took a coaching position at Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn for 18 years where he coached Kerri Gallagher.
Gallagher, now the head coach at Manhattan College, lead a hall of fame career at Fordham University winning four conference titles and representing the United States at the 2015 World Championships.
She brought on her former high school coach and mentor as an assistant track coach at Manhattan College and now together, Gallagher and Lovett have found a new protégé—also a former student at Bishop Kearney High School.
Lisa Fajardo transferred to Kearney after Bishop Ford High School shutdown.
Under Gallagher's leadership she has won the Van Cortland Park Cross Country Course—an achievement all three runners now share.
