A group in the Bronx has paired with the New York Yankees and the community to collect hundreds of items to be sent to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
The Bronx-based Baseball Training Academy in Westchester Square partnered with the the New York Yankees, Hanks Yanks and community members to collect the supplies.
The group was at its headquarters Wednesday finalizing preparation to send the items to the island.
The group collected more than 100 boxes in two weeks.
Boxes were filled with hundreds of nonperishable items including flashlights, batteries and diapers.
Baseball Training Academy owners Tony and Jessica Melendez decided to start a collection drive after hearing from relatives in their native hometown of Manitee, Puerto Rico that supplies were not getting to them  fast enough.
They say the shipment will be arriving in Puerto Rico by Friday.
