Special-needs school runs drive to aid Puerto Rican hurricane victims
A special-needs school in Claremont is keeping up its tradition of community outreach by setting up a relief drive for those affected by Hurricane Maria.
In P186X Walter J. Damrosch School's fifth year venturing out into the community, helping those in Puerto Rico has a personal impact on students.
"I really feel bad what happened to my uncle's house," says Aidan Feliciano, a student at P186X. "It got washed away. They are close to the shore so they were hit pretty bad."
The school is working with a local firehouse to send donations from their drive to Puerto Rico.
The Lead-Two-Feed program is designed to help those involved build skills that they can apply outside the classroom. Since beginning the program, P186X has been awarded more than $45,000 that has all gone to charitable organizations in the community.
