Cheddar Morning Business Update 10/10: MADD backs self-driving cars

  • There's a new documentary series from an unexpected place, Starbucks.  The coffee chain is out with its second season of upstanders.  A total of 11 episodes feature profiles of regular Americans. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz helped write and produce them. The series is available on Starbucks website. 
  • Self driving cars are getting an unexpected advocate, Mothers Against Drunk Driving.  Google's autonomous vehicle unit Waymo created a new campaign about the benefits of autonomous driving. It aims to highlight the benefits of driverless vehicles. Partnering with groups like MADD which says self-driving could “completely eliminate drunk driving and other causes of traffic deaths." 
  • Apple has reportedly nixed an Elvis Presley biopic series from the Weinstein company, according to Deadline. This follows a New York times expose on company co founder Harvey Weinstein and allegations he sexually harassed women for decades. The Elvis Project was in its early stages.
