Students at Mercy College will no longer have to come to school stressed about where their next meal will come from, thanks to a new food pantry that recently opened on campus.
The pantry, nicknamed the Maverick Market, is open to students and any members of the school's community.
"For them, it means that they know they can come to school, they can have their stomachs filled and they can begin to concentrate on their academics more readily," says Viviana Decohen, a member of the veterans council at the college.
School officials say the pantry will be a great addition, since most of the students commute. They say having food on campus will also help students focus and participate in class.
