The Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival is in Brooklyn Heights this weekend, celebrating 20 years of women of color in movies.
More than 30 films made by African-American, Asian, Caribbean and Latino women will be screened during the two-event at the Alamo Drafthouse.
"It's almost as if our mission is finally manifesting right now," says founder Carolyn Butts. "This is a good time if you're a woman and you're creating films and stories for people of color."
Butts says there have been lots of changes over the past 20 years, but there is still a long way to go.
"I want to see more films by women of color in this world," she told News 12.
