Three NYPD officers are being hailed as heroes after quick thinking actions helped save the life of a newborn baby.
Officers say they were on an unrelated call in Brooklyn when a man driving an SUV pulled up and told them his wife was in labor. One officer says she could see the baby crowning.
As the baby came out, the officer says the umbilical cord was wrapped around the child's neck.
She and another officer were able to free the child from the cord using a shoelace from their boots to tie the cord off and cut it.
The new mom and baby Benjamin were taken to SUNY Downstate Medical Center where they are both doing well.
