Students at a Park Slope school are state finalists in the "Samsung Solve for Tomorrow" contest for a second consecutive year.

The Secondary School for Journalism was a national winner last year in the contest that encourages students to solve real-world issues in their community using skills in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). 

Last year, the students won for their app that matched students in need with free food. They were awarded $150,000, which they used to buy computers and virtual reality equipment. 

They became state finalists this year for their proposal to create a virtual reality place where students can talk to others about their problems.

The deadline to submit the activity plan to Samsung is Dec. 6. State winners will be announced Dec. 13. National winners will be picked in 2018.
