Police are searching for three women who are wanted for allegedly shoplifting and assaulting a security guard at the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne.
Authorities said the women were seen inside the Lord and Taylor store stealing clothing around 8 p.m. on Nov. 30. Police said that after they left the store, the women were confronted by a loss prevention officer.
The women took off in an SUV while the security officer was still holding onto the front door. The officer was dragged. The incident was caught on surveillance video.
“What they did was wrong. This guy was just doing his job,” Wayne police Capt. Laurence Martin said.
The guard suffered a laceration and a concussion. The women sped off, according to police.
“You know desperate people do desperate things,” Martin said. “I’m not sure what was in their mindset. If they had just stopped, we wouldn’t be having this conversation today.”
Police said the women’s Nissan SUV was white and had New York plates. It was a rental car.
All of the women will be charged with robbery when they are caught. The driver will also be charged with aggravated assault.
Anyone who recognizes the women should call the Wayne Police Detective Bureau at 973-633-3530.
