Police arrested a 24-year-old Queens man after he was allegedly caught on camera stealing packages from front porches in Rockville Centre, Baldwin, Malverne and Lynbrook.
According to court papers, Peter Lee Dunbar would snatch packages during his day job delivering auto parts in a white van. Authorities say he stole from eight different homes, including six packages from Jen Bavaro, of Rockville Centre.
Bavaro says she thought it was strange when she got home and realized the boxes in front of her home were not only empty but had other people's names on them.
Police say Dunbar would take the contents of packages he liked, and then left the contents of packages he didn't like on people's doorsteps.
"The subject would deliver what looked like a package, but in fact he would switch out a package on the step and he would leave an empty box or box full of junk basically," said Lt. John Oddo, of the Malverne Police Department.
Police say because Dunbar drove what looked like a delivery truck, neighbors didn't notice what he was doing. They say they were able to track him down when they saw his van on surveillance video.
Dunbar pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of petit larceny in court Thursday. His wife and child had no comment as they left the courtroom.
