Nassau police and federal authorities have seized $25 million worth of counterfeit brand-name merchandise and arrested three Floral Park men in a crackdown on phony goods, authorities said Wednesday.
Nassau detectives, agents from the Department of Homeland Security and Custom Border Protection officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport followed the importing of counterfeit bags, watches and other accessories for six months, police said.
"Counterfeiting threatens our national security by endangering the health and safety of consumers, by wreaking havoc on our economy and funding criminal elements involved in their illegal activities," said Chris Lau, an assistant special agent in charge with Homeland Security Investigations.
Investigators eventually obtained search warrants for three sites: 199 Willis Ave. in Floral Park, a storage facility at 119 South Third St. in New Hyde Park and an undisclosed rental property. The searches yielded millions of dollars of fake Rolex, Burberry, Hublot, Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton items, police said.
At the Willis Avenue home, police said they arrested three men who lived there, Mahmood Nasir, 55, and his two sons, Ramish Nasir, 22, and Rubail Nasir, 18.
The elder Nasir faces charges of first- and second-degree counterfeiting. The judge set bail at $250,000.
The two younger men each face charges of first-degree counterfeiting and fourth-degree conspiracy. Rubail's bail was set at $25,000. Ramish's bail was set at $50,000.
They had to surrender their passports. All three are due back in court Friday.
No one answered the door at the Nasir family's home. Off camera, neighbors told News 12 they never noticed anything out of the ordinary.
But police said Mahmood Nasir faced similar charges in 2012, although he avoided conviction.
Federal investigators say the Nasirs are Pakistani citizens but have been residing here on work visas.
