Cheddar Morning Business Update 01/02: Marijuana in CA, 'The Last Jedi,' and Spud Crunchies

Marijuana is now legal in California for adults 21 and older. The biggest state to legalize marijuana in the U.S. It's expected to be a $7 billion industry. So far, only about 90 businesses received state licenses to open on New Year's Day - none in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

It was a big weekend at the box office. "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is officially 2017's top-grossing movie, bringing in another $52 million this weekend in the U.S. and Canada, and topping $1 billion worldwide. The film's success is giving the movie industry hopes of a rebound after a lackluster year, pushing overall box office sales up 3 percent.

Trader Joe's has been selling out of its new french fries - Spud Crunchies. They're a mix between french fry and potato chip, described as "salty, crunchy, shelf-stable french fries" made of just three ingredients - Russet potatoes, canola oil, and salt.
