Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) re-introduced legislation that would give some hamlets in the Town of Southampton their own zip code. 

Residents of Flanders, Riverside and Northampton share the 11901 zip code with the nearby Town of Riverhead.

According to Rep. Zeldin, there are currently 18 identical street names and at least 32 similar street names between the two towns.

The congressman says there is often confusion with regard to the U.S. mail, and the zip code issue presents a safety problem if police don't know where exactly to respond. 

Zeldin re-introduced legislation to create new zip codes after his last bill passed the House but stalled in the Senate.
