Police officers showed their support for a severely injured colleague Wednesday, packing a courtroom as the suspect faced a judge.

Justin Murrell, 16, allegedly dragged Detective Dalsh Veve with a stolen car for more than two blocks in June last year.

"Officer Veve went to do a job to make the streets safe for all of us," said Pat Lynch, the president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of the City of New York. "There was gunfire. He responded. And this mope decided to drag him down the street, and we've seen the video. It's a violent, violent incident."

PBA members had turned out to oppose possible bail for Murrell as Veve remains in a rehabilitation center with no ability to communicate.

"His wife, a nurse who renders care to patients but now has to render care to her husband, that's what we need to focus on," Lynch says.

Murrell is due back in court March 15. The PBA will be present again as well.
