New York is joining forces with neighboring states to fight for tougher gun laws.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Rhode Island have formed a new coalition called "States for Gun Safety."

They plan to set up a database to share information on firearms and law enforcement efforts.

The states will also work to trace and intercept guns used in crimes and transported across state lines.

Cuomo says now is the time for action.

"Since Columbine, there have been 200 school shootings, 25 mass school shootings. And you still have these Washington politicians who refuse to stand up and do the right thing because they're afraid of the consequences. You now have high school students, who in my opinion, are showing more leadership than the leaders in Washington,” says Cuomo.

Gov. Cuomo is also pushing legislation that would remove all firearms from those who convicted of domestic violence.
