A center to rehabilitate formerly incarcerated women in Castle Hill is drawing concerns from the surrounding community.
A large crowd turned out for Community Board 9's public hearing on Hope House NYC, billed as a safe housing space for women trying to get back on their feet after spending time behind bars.
Elected officials were in attendance, including state Sen. Jeff Klein, who questioned the legitimacy of the housing space.
Klein was following by neighbors who expressed fear of the project being placed in a residential area near schools.
A representative for Hope House NYC says that the group is doing good, honest work and would like to stay in the neighborhood.
