Opening statements are expected to be delivered Wednesday in the long-delayed trial of a man accused of stabbing two Brooklyn children in an elevator.

Daniel St. Hubert is charged with murder, attempted murder and assault in the 2014 attack in East New York. He allegedly stabbed 6-year-old PJ Avitto 16 times, killing him. Mikayla Capers was badly injured. She's expected to testify during the trial.

Lawyers on both sides have presented their pretrial arguments, and St. Hubert is expected to plead not guilty.

Prosecutors say St. Hubert's DNA was found at the crime scene, but St. Hubert's lawyer says the defendant is "just a patsy."

Twelve jurors have been selected, along with four alternates. Opening statements should begin Wednesday morning.
