The No. 1 team in New Jersey has one player who may remind people of a former college star.
Khalil Whitney looks to lead Roselle Catholic to a championship Sunday. His teammates say he is ferocious on the court and Khalil says he gets that from his father, Kelly Whitney.
"I have his type of dog in me," Khalil says.
Kelly was a starting freshman for Seton Hall in 2002 and became an All- Big East player by the end of his senior year.
Now, Kelly is teaching his son about basketball and other life lessons. The former Seton Hall star was arrested in 2010 after he robbed eight college students at gunpoint. He spent almost two years in prison.
"My job is to be a parent first," Kelly says. "Make sure that he don't get pulled in the wrong corner or around the wrong people."
Nearly 30 colleges have offered Khalil a scholarship so far.
