An arrest has been made in the shooting of a livery cab driver.
Police say 26-year-old Jeffrey Camacho picked up Mario Powell at Fish Avenue and Boston Road just before 1 a.m. on March 17.
When he dropped him off at Morrison Avenue between 172nd Street and 174th Street, Powell shot Camacho several times before stealing his wallet and robbing him of $23.
Camacho miraculously survived that shooting and is expected to recover.
From his hospital bed, he told News 12 that he begged the thief to spare his life. He says that he is thankful to be alive after the scariest night of his life.
Fernando Mateo of New York State's Federation of Taxi Drivers says Camacho picked Powell up as a passenger with Excellent Car Service in the Bronx.
Police arrested 27-year-old Powell late Friday night. He's now facing robbery charges.
The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers has launched a GoFundMe page to help Camacho and his three daughters.
Powell is being charged with robbery in the first degree.
