Gubernatorial hopeful and actress Cynthia Nixon was back on the campaign trail Wednesday to visit tenants at the Albany Houses in Brooklyn's Crown Heights section.
The former "Sex and the City" star was joined by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and tenants association leaders as they toured the New York City Housing Authority building.
Nixon surveyed conditions inside units and observed missing floor tiles and potentially dangerous electrical issues.
"I wasn't prepared for what a health crisis this is," she said. "This isn't just a housing crisis, this is a health crisis."
Nixon's tour is the latest visit by politicians to public housing complexes in New York City. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has toured multiple NYCHA complexes within the past month.
New York's governor does not have any control over NYCHA -- that falls under the mayor's jurisdiction. Albany does give money to New York City public housing, with Cuomo pledging more than $500 million to the agency this week amid ongoing tension between him and Mayor Bill de Blasio.
"When I am the governor, I am sure that the mayor and I will disagree on a whole host of issues," Nixon said. "But I can promise you we won't get into this kind of a pissing contest."
Residents say they don't care about the politics; they just want to see change.
