A dog leaped over a playground fence and attacked a grandmother who shielded her grandchildren from its fangs along Adee Avenue Wednesday afternoon, according to witnesses.
Neighbors say the 57-year-old woman was watching the children after school at the Eastchester Houses playground around 3 p.m.
According to witnesses, several good Samaritans helped free the woman from the dog's bite, which they say cut her hand to the bone. She was taken to the hospital with injuries to her ear and hand.
News 12 is told that the NYPD has taken into custody the dog and a 23-year-old woman who owns it.
NYCHA pet policy prohibits certain breeds considered violent and dogs over 25 pounds. It was not immediately clear if the dog violated any of those rules, but witnesses described the dog as a pit bull.
