A survey conducted by AAA is revealing some troubling trends about distracted driving.

Of 2,600 drivers surveyed, 60 percent admitted to talking on a hands-free cellphone while driving, 49 percent talked on a handheld cellphone, 45 percent read a text or email while driving and 35 percent typed or sent a text or email while they were behind the wheel.

According to the report, 95 percent of the drivers say it is unacceptable to text or email while driving, but 36 percent admit they have done exactly that within the last 30 days.

Suffolk police say more than 5,000 tickets were issued last year for distracted driving.
