A survivor of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, is uniting with students in New York City to fight gun violence.

Aalayah Eastmond joined the Rev. Al Sharpton at the National Action Network headquarters in Harlem Sunday to announce an anti-gun violence march starting at Trump Tower in Manhattan on June 2.

“You never think that it would happen to you, and then when it does, you realize you have to do something,” she said.

The march will kick off New York’s gun violence awareness month.

“This ain’t about whether you’re Republican, Democrat, a progressive, a conservative,” said Rev. Al Sharpton. “Our kids are being shot down in the schools, and we need to come together and stop it.”

The event follows last month’s massive anti-gun violence March in Washington, which was organized after 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14.
