Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in Sunset Park to discuss the newest, intensive upgrades that he believes will slowly improve subway service.

One the most notable repairs coming to the tracks is a magnetic wand. The magnetic wand will help clean up metal shavings and debris that accumulate on the insulated joints, which connect to the tracks. This debris can trigger red signals because the system thinks the rails are occupied. The governor said the issue is among the top causes for subway delays. 

He also said the wands and other large-scale repairs are part of the Subway Action Plan. The plan was developed a year ago and has been fully funded in the state budget.

The governor said the state will soon have up to 1,000 of these wands to use on the tracks.
