Police: Man raped, robbed woman in Concourse Village
Police are searching for a man who they say raped and robbed a woman in Concourse Village.
Police say the man followed the 23-year-old woman shortly after midnight into an elevator at the Andrew Jackson Houses. They say he threatened the woman and demanded her PIN, put her in a chokehold, dragged her unconscious body up the stairs, forced her to do crack cocaine and sexually assaulted her.
The victim's mother, who didn't wish to show her face on camera, says her daughter is a high school teacher and wants to keep her identity private. She says the victim was heading home after spending time with her boyfriend when the attack happened.
The family says the suspect was withdrawing large amounts of cash throughout the day.
Several surveillance cameras captured the man, who's believed to be in his 30s, inside the New York City Housing Authority building.
"This is a tragic situation," NYCHA said in a statement. "While we are working closely with our partners in law enforcement during this investigation, we also ask any member of the public who has knowledge of this crime to contact NYPD immediately."
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
