Flooding causes headaches for drivers, businesses

Posted: Updated:
THE BRONX -

One area hit especially hard during Monday's rainstorm was Shore Road in Pelham Bay.

Streets were slick and some sidewalks were completely covered with water. Some areas had huge puddles extending out into both lanes of traffic. Some drivers even went into oncoming lanes of traffic to avoid the water.

Local lawmakers are working with the Department of Transportation to improve the roads.

At the Pelham Bay Golf Club, managers say flooding was so bad they had to close for much of the day. The food and beverage director says the loss could cost the club around $30,000.

Later in the day, however, the weather cleared up enough for some people to play.

"We got lucky," says Akil Salter, a golfer. "I had no thinking whatsoever that I would be coming here the way it was raining before."
