A 20-year-old man from Massapequa was charged Monday night in the stabbing death of 19-year-old Joao Souza, of Westchester, inside a dorm on the campus of Binghamton University.
Authorities say Michael Roque, a graduate of Syosset High School, was taken into custody Monday night after he allegedly stabbed a fellow student Sunday inside a Windham Hall dorm room.
Investigators didn't give a motive for the killing but do believe the victim was targeted.
Surveillance video shows what police say is Roque leaving Souza’s dorm room with latex gloves on and a hooded sweatshirt covering most of his face.
Roque has been charged with second-degree murder. He’s expected back in court in the coming days.
Neighbors on Camp Road in Massapequa said the 20-year-old moved to the area with his family last summer.
This is the second killing in five weeks at Binghamton University. In March, Haley Anderson, of Westbury, was strangled in her off-campus apartment.
