Police: Over 100 underage patrons caught at Norwalk bar
Police say they found more than 100 underage people at a bar in Norwalk Thursday night and that many of them were drunk and without identification.
Police were conducting a liquor compliance check at Johnny Utah's on Washington Street at 11:30 p.m. when they found the group. Out of the 103 people caught, 93 people were Fairfield University students.
Police say these checks are conducted regularly and they will usually find some instances of underage drinking, but to find over 100 people is uncommon.
Dozens of Norwalk officers were called to the scene to help get everyone off the street.
Fairfield University public safety was called in to transport students back to campus. The university is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
Employees of Johnny Utah's have posted on social media that they will not be able to work because the bar is preparing for a "rebranding."
The manager of Johnny Utah's couldn't be reached for comment. Johnny Utah's wouldn't confirm if they were closing or rebranding.
News12 has learned that the Department of Consumer Protection issued a summary suspension for Johnny Utah's today. The establishment must remain closed until further notice.
“We are pleased that the Department of Consumer Protection suspended Johnny Utah’s liquor permit,” said Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik.
