Bronx leaders are calling on the federal government to do more for those displaced by the hurricane in Puerto Rico.
Rep. Joe Crowley made the plea today at a roundtable discussion streamed live on social media. The discussion focused on how much help is still needed almost eight months since Hurricane Maria hit the area.
"We can do more," says Crowley. "We can do more to help our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico recover from this incredible disaster."
Rosa Basora has been living in a hotel in Queens since the storm hit. She needs access to medical care, one area lawmakers would like to see the federal government help with.
In addition to health care, lawmakers say the federal government needs to focus on the rebuilding effort on the island. They say Puerto Rico needs more resources like skilled workers in addition to funding.
