A Republican candidate has announced his run for the 136th district seat for Westport in the state general assembly.

Greg Kraut announced his run at Long Lots School, and said that the state needs new leadership and he cannot continue to watch bad decisions being made on a state level.

"Our state is at a critical impasse right now, we're going to be having a $4 billion budget crisis coming up," said Kraut. "Unfortunately, we need leadership up there that knows how to solve that crisis, and I'm the person that actually can do that."

The district covers most of Westport and is currently represented by Democratic representative Jonathan Steinberg.
