Former Mets and Phillies outfielder Lenny Dykstra has been accused of threatening to kill an Uber driver.
Linden police say that Dykstra, 55, is now facing terroristic threat charges and drug offenses.
Police say Linden officers were alerted to a car that sped into Linden police headquarters’ attached parking garage and was repeatedly honking its horn around 3:30 a.m.
Officials say that the 47-year-old Uber driver ran from the car and told police that he picked up Dykstra earlier in the evening for a scheduled fare. Police say that the driver told officers that Dykstra tried to change the destination of the trip, and when the driver refused, Dykstra allegedly put a weapon to his head and threatened to kill him.
Police say that no weapon was found, but that officers did recover a quantity of cocaine, MDMA and marijuana among Dykstra’s belongings.
This is not the first time Dykstra has had run-ins with law enforcement. The three-time All-Star was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading no contest to charges of grand theft auto and filing a false financial statement in 2011.
Dykstra played for the Mets and Phillies throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He retired from baseball after the 1996 season.
