Residents hit the road for Memorial Day weekend travels

Many residents were getting a head start on the holiday weekend by hitting the road Friday.

A record 41.5 million Americans will be traveling this Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA, and most of them will be traveling by car. That is up 5 percent from last year.

Gas prices are also the highest since 2014.

AAA says the evening commute Friday and Saturday could be the most hectic times on the roads. AAA is also telling drivers to expect traffic to be heavy Monday when everyone heads home
