New York City's beaches are officially open for the season this Memorial Day weekend.
The city has eight public beaches spanning 14 miles open through Sept. 9 this year.
Mayor de Blasio stopped by Coney Island on Friday to kick off beach season at the boardwalk.
“This is one of the places that is just so wonderful in the summer,” he said. “Everyone enjoys it, every generation, no matter where you are from. Coney Island is a place to love."
The NYC Health Department is also offering beachgoers free text alerts on beach water quality advisories and closures.
