EAST TREMONT -

A man has died and two others are injured following a fire on the third floor of 2216 Adams Place Saturday afternoon.

The man, 44, died after suffering severe burns.

Several fire units were working to get the apartment fire under control at 3:30 p.m. Neighbors described to News 12 how people rushed out to safety and even ran to the roof to escape the smoke.

Fire officials told News 12 that a man and woman, both in their 50s, were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with injuries. Some neighbors say they heard an argument inside the building before the fire.

An NYPD arson and explosion unit and fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
