Neighbors were fond of slain 73-year-old from Mott Haven

Police are on the hunt for suspects in the slaying of a 73-year-old man who was found stabbed to death in his home on Beekman Avenue.
Owen Dillard won $50,000 from the lottery in April, neighbors say. His fiancee found him dead with multiple stab wounds in his neck around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
His ex-wife lives in the same building. She says detectives obtained surveillance video that may help them identify a suspect -- but she says police have asked her not to comment on it.
It remains unclear whether the prize money had anything to do with the slaying.
Dillard's nephew says his uncle had recently been diagnosed with unspecified health complications and was told he did not have much time to live.
Neighbors say he spent that time driving nice cars and helping out needy community members. Neighborhood children had fond words of the man, who they say helped them cross the street, looked out for them and sometimes even gave them money.
According to at least one published report, a nephew of Dillard is a person of interest in the case -- but authorities did not immediately confirm that information.
